We already know that the Xiaomi Mi Max - which is said to sport a mammoth 6.4-inch FullHD display - will be unveiled on May 10. However, turns out that Xiaomi will make a couple of more announcements that day - the company has confirmed that the next major iteration of its MIUI ROM as well as the Mi Band 2 will also be unveiled on May 10. Posting on Weibo, Xiaomi promises a deluge of new features, designs and experiences with the new ROM, while the MIUI YouTube channel has also offered a very brief teaser of what's in store. Specifically, the notification shade will offer a much more dynamic experience, with core functions exposed and hidden through delicate scrolling.
As well as the adjustments to the notification pane, there's also said to be a new cloud music application, though hopefully, a few leaks between now and May 10th will offer a clearer picture of MIUI 8 and its features. Whilst we cannot take anything for granted, one would hope that MIUI 8 is based upon the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Even though the firmware has been around for several months as we look ahead to Android N, it's not a dead-cert that MIUI 8 has been built atop Marshmallow foundations. When one considers that current-latest MIUI 7.1 is baked into the ancient Android 4.4 KitKat, don't be too surprised if this forthcoming edition follow remains behind the times with Android 5.1 Lollipop or earlier. Whatever the case, Xiaomi is promising some exciting features and thus, we can't wait to dive in. Let us know what you'd like to see of MIUI 8 by dropping a comment below. |
